happy friday! today is the start of a fun blog hop...i hope youre enjoying it. at the very end of my long post ill leave a list of the entire blog hop order in case you get lost along the way :) its neat to read about all the other traditions from all over and to see how the crafters craft about them. be sure to play along with us! show us your family traditions or heritage.AND i have a pretty giveaway all you have to do is leave a comment AND become a follower of my blog. :)
what i thought id share with you is a tradition my daughter and i started a few years ago between us. at the beginning of each new year i alter a small kraft lunch bag. and every holiday, birthday or just when one has done something extra that just made us feel that lil more special , we write it down and put that note into the bag. at the end of the year we open the bag and go thru the notes, reminiscing and talking about that event.its always sweet to recall that moment.sometimes we get a good laugh sometimes we get a little weepy eyed ;) its just really nice time spent together.
the reason i use a small bag is for space. when were done and its time to put it away the small bag can be folded down and put away in its special place with the others in a box that will be passed down to my daughter who i hope when she FINALLY has a kid..specifically a daughter..HINT to my child! lol, shares this tradition.
the details on my bag ..at the top i used a( fiskars) punch that cuts a doily shape at 4 and 6 inches. ( i used the 4 inch cut) , but you can buy doilies at your local craft stores . i sewed a button onto it. under the flap i attached clear velcro coins. i purchased mine from joann.com (that way it stays closed nicely.) the ribbon is rayon that i colored with colorbox fluid chalk, heat set that then added (tim holtz) distress stickles (spun sugar) then crumpled in to a ball. i let it dry then opened it up. isnt that easy!
i hand made the flowers. heres an easy tutorial on that click ~~~> thank you kim!<~~~~~.be sure to check out all of kims blog she has some awesome tutorials and techniques. and easy to follow!
on my flowers i added colorbox fluid chalk and distress stickles (spun sugar and wild honey).the butterflies are (martha stewart) punches. i added spun sugar and tumbled glass distress stickles to them along with colorbox fluid chalk on the edges. i hand stitched a little on the paper and i also stamped a couple of butterflies using (tim holtz) distress ink in antique linen. the sentiment was computer generated. i dabbed distress stickles ( scattered straw) over all the paper. if you click on the pictures it will bring a very upclose shot that you can see them better. thats it. very easy to make a sweet bag thats pretty.
i know this is a little long but i be sure to scroll down under my pictures as i have gotten a wonderful super talented sponsor ~~~> Kathy <~~~ who has a special handmade gift that one of you will receive. ill randomly pick a winner on the 21st and post the winner here so please be sure to check back in :)
